My personal journey through grief
I am a Certified Grief Educator through Dr. David Kessler, a leading expert on grief. I share tools, support, and understanding to help ease the pain of grief, because I know firsthand how devastating loss can be.
The day everything changed
Six years ago, I lost my husband, the love of my life, while we were at a resort celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. His passing was sudden and traumatic.
That morning began like any other. We woke up and talked about our plans for the day. He went into the kitchen to get coffee and asked if I wanted a cup. I said yes, of course.
Less than a minute later, I heard the unfamiliar sound of dishes and silverware falling. I called his name, but he did not answer. As I turned toward the kitchen, I did not see him standing. In my heart, I knew something awful had happened.
I ran to the other side of the counter and saw him lying lifeless on the floor. That moment marked the beginning of a journey I never expected to face.
Finding meaning and helping others
In the months and years that followed, I walked through deep darkness and relied on prayer to help me get through each day. I felt as though parts of myself were disappearing. I struggled with everything I had, yet often felt I had nothing to hold onto.
Many friends want to support someone who is grieving, but they may not know how, especially if they have never experienced such a loss themselves.
Then I came across an email from Dr. David Kessler, a world-renowned grief expert. He was offering a class for people who had experienced loss and felt ready to help others.
By that time, I had moved through the five stages of grief and found myself entering what Dr. Kessler describes as the sixth stage: finding meaning. I knew I was ready to help others move through the pain of loss and toward a place of meaning.
I also knew this work would be a meaningful way to honor my husband and carry forward the love we shared.
